Vancouver, WA – Road construction begins on Monday, March 9 on a segment of NE 88th Street between NE Andresen Road and NE St. Johns Road, according to Clark County Public Works.
The road will be closed to through traffic, but local access will remain open for vehicles traveling to businesses and residences within the construction zone. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction, according to the county. Construction should be complete by this fall.
The improved road will include two travel lanes and a center turn lane, bicycle lanes, and sidewalks. The project also includes modifications to traffic signals at NE St. Johns Road, NE 64th Avenue, NE Andresen Road and the railroad signal on NE 88th Street. Stormwater collection and treatment, and environmental mitigation planting are also part of this project. Utility relocation work to prepare for the new road began last fall and is now complete.
Clark County defines local traffic to include people who live within the construction area, others traveling to those residences, local business traffic, delivery vehicles, along with busses, service vehicles (mail, garbage collection), and public safety services such as fire, police and ambulance responders .
All other vehicles will be expected to use marked detours around the project. Closing the road to through traffic provides for safer work zones and allows the contractor to complete work more quickly.
