Southwest Washington Red Cross Makes Adjustments

(LONGVIEW, WA – May 1, 2009) Southwest Washington Red Cross
As with many local companies and organizations, the current economic recession has created adverse conditions for the Red Cross chapter.
Mindful of our donors’ intent and how resources are utilized, a thorough review of finances and placement of assets in the six county areas Red Cross provides services has been conducted. The conclusion was that it is no longer a viable option to keep a full time paid staff at the Longview chapter facility five days a week. All volunteer activities will remain constant and instructional classes will still be conducted at the building. Emergency vehicles located at the building will also remain for response calls. All Red Cross services provided in Cowlitz, Wahkiakum and Pacific counties will also be maintained at their current levels.
The Red Cross building, located at 1265 14th Ave., has been for sale for the past two years. Following the move of blood collection operations to separate facilities it was determined that such a large facility was no longer needed to provide chapter services. With the successful sale of the property, the Red Cross would like to locate to smaller local facilities.

Red Cross is not a government agency and does not receive any funding either from the government or from national Red Cross headquarters. The Red Cross is a nonprofit organization led by volunteers that depend on the goodwill of the American people to make financial donations to help their neighbors in times of need.
