City of Battle Ground officials are in daily contact with the Clark County Public Health Department to coordinate swine flu response and implement prevention and control measures.
City staff who are first responders are briefed each day with advisories and updated information regarding the Human Swine Flu Virus. The City has procedures in place to continue essential services such as water, sewer, police and fire in the event the flu becomes widespread. City personnel have been advised of ways to protect themselves and others and, as a preventive measure, City Manager Dennis Osborn is advising employees who may have flu-like symptoms to stay home from work and consult with their health care provider.
The Clark County Public Health Department has established an information telephone line to handle questions and concerns about the swine flu from the public and health care providers. From within Clark County the number is 360-397-8021.
Although there is no vaccine available right now to protect people against H1N1 swine flu, there are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Health officials recommend these everyday steps to protect your health:
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
· Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
· If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
