Joe Keller Named Community Champion

Camas, Wash. — (June 2, 2009) — Symetra Financial announced today that Joe Keller of Camas, Wash., has been named as one of five Symetra Community Champions across the country. The Symetra Community Champion Award was created to recognize and celebrate those who are working to make a positive difference in their communities.

An active board member of the Camas Education Foundation (CEF), Keller works to support academic enrichment programs impacting over 5,000 students in the Camas School District. Founded in 1997, CEF is a non-profit volunteer group dedicated to achieving excellence in education. The group, in partnership with Camas schools, strives to inspire and motivate students by providing supplemental funding for enhanced learning programs. Over the years, Keller has served on the foundation’s board in many capacities including president, mini-grants-chair, marketing chair and auction procurement chair.

In addition to his work with CEF, Keller also volunteers with several other local organizations including Community Action Committee for Schools, New Blue Parrot, Portland Taiko Theater, School House Supply and Oregon Nikki. He also finds time to coach a youth soccer team.

Keller was nominated as a Symetra Community Champion by Jeff Mansur of the Fournier Group. “Joe’s commitment to the youth in our community is truly outstanding,” said Mansur. “His efforts have already made a positive impact – providing opportunities for thousands of students in kindergarten through high school.”

Keller will be recognized at the city’s 2009 Citizen of the Year Awards Banquet on June 2. Symetra’s Managing Director of Community Giving, Stan Emert, will attend the event to honor Keller and to present a contribution to the foundation.
