Vancouver, WA – Clark County has purchased a 10-acre property at 11515 NW 16th Ave. in Felida for use as a future community park and trail head, following approval by the Board of Clark County Commissioners.
The county bought the property from Umpqua Bank at auction for $990,000. The property was appraised for $2.4 million in 2008.
Plans call for the site to become a community park and trail head for the future expansion of Cougar Creek Trail, which runs between NW 119th Street and the Salmon Creek Greenway Trail, when funding becomes available for design and construction. This acquisition also provides a necessary connection to expand Cougar Creek Trail south of NW 119th Street to Hazel Dell Avenue. The Cougar Creek Trail expansion is part of the Greater Clark Parks District program to add about 7 miles of new trail throughout the unincorporated urban area of Clark County.
Funding to buy the property came from Park Impact Fees, which are collected whenever new residential property is developed.
Clark County is looking for additional property to carry out long-term plans for park and trail development across the county. Interested sellers are encouraged to contact Jeroen Kok at Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation for more information at (360) 619-1116.
